Discover the Gibson Recipe

Gin adds a flavoring effect to many cocktail drinks. One of the incredible cocktails in the world is the popular Gibson Martini. Gibson is a type of cocktail drink made from mixture of dry vermouth, gin, and pickled onion.  This drink is made with traditional gin using silverskin onion as the standard garnish but some garnish it with citrus. The preparation is easy using a shaker and a martini glass.

Popular Rumors on the History of Gibson

Origination of Gibson is remained unclear with several theories and tales. It says that sometime in the year of 1930’s, Charles Dana Gibson, a famous magazine illustrator asked a certain Charlie Connolly to make something unique and he came up with adding a cocktail onion to the mixture of gin and vermouth.

How to Prepare a Delicious Gibson Cocktail Recipe

Main Ingredients

·         2 oz of Gibson gin
·         1 oz of dry Vermouth
·         Cocktail  onion
·         Ice cubes

Needed Materials:

·         Shaker
·         Cocktail glass
·         Bar spoon
Total Time of Preparation: 3 minutes

1.       Fill the cocktail glass with ice cubes and prepare the cocktail shaker.
2.       Put ice into the cocktail shaker.
3.       Add the gin and vermouth to the cocktail shaker.
4.       Stir the ingredients gradually using a bar spoon for 5 to 10 seconds.
5.       Cover and shake.
6.       Put into the cocktail glass.
7.       Garnish with minimal amount of cocktail onions.
8.       Consider the brine of olive as part of the flavor.
9.       Serve.

The step-by-step process above is very simple to follow. However, the taste will depend on the ratio of ingredients that you used.  You have to consider the following options to create a dry Gibson martini.

·         A small amount of vermouth can be added to the martini glass. Rotate the glass so that it will be coated with vermouth, then pour out the vermouth before adding the gin from the cocktail shaker.
·         To achieve a super dry Gibson drink, a plastic spout is very useful in pouring out the vermouth from the bottle. By holding it tightly with your fingers, you can have a single drop or 2 of vermouth. Using the pour spout, carefully transfer the vermouth into the shaker with the vodka or gin.

·         Dry Gibson can be also achieved by adding the vermouth to the cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes before adding the gin, and then follow it with gradual stirring and straining out. Remove the vermouth before putting additional gin or vodka.
Gibson will remain as an all time favorite classic cocktail drink for many drinkers. Debate among drink specialists about the ratio of gin and the garnish are still issues that needs to be addressed. But, people will agree that Gibson is one of the best cocktails in the world. Currently, this type of drink comes in different flavors which are popularly known as martinis. Gibson has evolved into a new style of drink which enable drinkers to make their own recipe and flavors.
