The Henson

Mr. Ray Reilly, the owner of Surry Hills’ Trinity Bar reconstructs the old Henson Park Hotel when the hotel suddenly closed. They create a new venue for Marickville and bought the old hotel in 1923. Today, Henson Park Hotel is popularly known as The Henson. It is the oldest and longest institution that still stands these days.  The Newtown Jets rugby club considers The Henson as their new home and they has been provided a new life as a tenant of the modern and latest pub.

The old Henson Park Hotel was created in 1993. It was on the Daley’s brick pit site owned by Thomas Daley. Henson Park was managed in the year 1886-1914 by the Standsdure Brick Company. The approximate employees of Henson Park were 60 people with brickworks that occupied 9 square yard or and in September 2, 1993, the Henson Park Hotel opened. The cricket (rugby league) was the first sport that has been played in the park on April 1, 1936. Aside from rugby, soccer and football, Henson park ground is also associated with sports like cycling.

The architecture of the Henson Park has been changed. It has now a pinball machine with a beer garden and area exclusively for kids, though the big part of the front bar has not been change. This is because they value their long-time local customer. The menu they offer includes lamb ribs, various types of burgers, chips snacks, mac n cheese that is baked with leek, cauliflower, and other herbs. They also offer pork belly with Kim-chee goring and variety of rice like brown rice. They plant their own herb, vegetables, and other fruits to guarantee the customer that the ingredient they use in the food they serve is fresh. Golden Cobra serve as their supplier for the superb coffee and the supplier for their beer is the Newtown’s Young Henry.
