Green Vesper

The Green Vesper is a cocktail that was originally made of vodka, gin and Kina Lillet. This drink was invented and named by fictional secret agent James Bond. With the James Bond flick Casino Royale in theatres, most cocktail enthusiast’s eyes are looking for the appearance of the Green Vesper.

James Bond, also known as agent 007, is most likely the best film character that has ever lived. Most people don’t know how he easily persuades beautiful women to sleep with him. Some people claim that it has something to do with the Green Vesper. The recipe of this cocktail was first introduced in the Casino Royale movie. It was also recently added to the James Bond series named Quantum of Solace.
The Green Vesper is very drinkable, especially when it is loaded with ice. The Lillet adds more tropical aromas and sweetness than dry vermouth. The vodka cuts back on the herbal notes of the gin and the lemon twirl goes perfectly with a gin based martini.

Since both Gordon and Kina Lillet have been recreated since 1953, alternatives can be made that try attempt to bring back the original flavour of the drink. Cocchi Americano is an acceptable alternative for the unavailable Kina Lillet. For a more conventional flavour, use 50% Vodka to bring the alcohol content of the wine back to 1953 levels.
This type of cocktail can be prepared into two distinct methods and here they are:

Method 1:

You have to prepare several ingredients such as:
  • 1 ounce or two parts gin
  • ½ ounce or one parts vodka
  • ¼ ounce or 0.5 part Kina Lillet or Lillet Blanc
  • Lemon twist for garnish
After preparing these ingredients, you can start making your own Green Vesper. At first, you need to add ice to a cocktail shaker. You also need to add Vodka, gin and Lillet to the cocktail shaker. Then, simply cap the shaker and shake the ingredients for almost five seconds.  After that, strain into a cocktail glass or deep champagne goblet. Just bend the lemon twist to force out some citrus oils and gently rub the rim of the glass. Once the procedures are done, you can serve and enjoy your cocktail.

Method 2:

You need to prepare the following ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Gordon’s gin
  • ½ ounce Gilbey’s vodka
  • ¼ ounce Lillet Blanc
  • 5 to 10 drops of prepared quinine tea
  • Ice

If you already have these ingredients, you can easily make a tasty Green Vesper. To do this, you need to add ice to a cocktail shaker. Then, add the Gilbey’s vodka, Gordon’s gin, Lillet Blanc and 5 to 10 drops of a prepared quinine tea to the wine shaker. After that, you need to cap the shaker and shake the ingredients at least 15 seconds. Then, strain into a large martini glass or a deep champagne goblet. You also need to blend an orange twist to squeeze out some citrus oils and drop the twist into the drink.
